Can scanned image PDFs be recognized?

This operation does not recognize scanned images. Without a text layer, a PDF may have no extractable text.

Will the result keep the original layout?

No. Plain text output does not preserve fonts, images, or page layout. Complex multi-column pages may need reading-order adjustments.
